There are lots of City plans, why the need for this one?
Over the last 10 years, the City has developed a number of foundational plans meant to guide initiatives for key City services. For example, PlanSJ guides land use and development, PlaySJ guides parks and recreation, and MoveSJ guides transportation. Council also identifies priorities for each term. This Strategic Plan will provide direction to steer these plans and identifies how they will work together.
This Strategic Plan identifies a vision, mission, and goals and includes the most important priorities for the City. It outlines the objectives and initiatives necessary to reach the goals, using our existing plans as an anchor.
What is the difference between a strategic plan and Council Priorities?
The 10-year Strategic Plan is a long-term vision and strategy document that will be used to guide all further decision-making and subordinate policy development for the City of Saint John.
Council’s Priorities guide decision-making during Council’s term, providing direction in the development of service objectives and work plans. Council’s Priorities aligns with the long-term-vision and strategy set out in the 10 Year Strategic Plan.
Who is on the Steering Committee?
The Committee has seven members - the Mayor, three members of Common Council, and three members of the public chosen through an application process through nominating committee
