Canada Games Aquatic Centre Renewal Project
A renewed aquatic legacy for our Region and Province
Project Overview
The Canada Games Aquatic Centre (CGAC), originally built for the 1985 Canada Summer Games, is preparing to undergo a major renewal to meet the needs of the 2029 Canada Games and future generations. This investment by the Fundy Regional Service Commission will modernize the facility, enhance energy efficiency, improve accessibility, and strengthen the spectator experience.
As the only 50 metre pool in New Brunswick, the CGAC serves athletes, schools, clubs, and communities including the City of Saint John, Grand Bay-Westfield, Hampton, Quispamsis, Rothesay, Fundy-St. Martins, and the Fundy Rural District.
This generational project will ensure the province continues to have a modern, competition-ready aquatic facility that supports both local use and high-performance sport for decades to come, as New Brunswick prepares to host the 2029 Canada Summer Games in Moncton and the Saint John region.
Key Upgrades & Features
Competition-ready 50 metre pool upgrades
Warm-up pool and leisure pool enhancements to meet competition standards and revitalize these spaces
Fully renovated change rooms

Governance & Oversight
A Project Working Group led by the City of Saint John, Fundy Regional Service Commission, Envision Saint John, Canada Games Aquatic Centre Management, and the 2029 Canada Games Bid Committee will guide the project. A dedicated Project Manager, within the City’s capital delivery team, will oversee all technical and operational components.
Environmental & Social Impact
Modern systems and infrastructure upgrades will enhance energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and improve climate resilience. Accessibility upgrades will support barrier-free experiences for all users.
Together, these improvements will extend the life of the CGAC by approximately 40 years while supporting the 2029 Canada Games and the broader sport system in New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada.
Staying Connected Throughout the Project
As the renewal project moves forward, we will engage with members, partners, and the broader community to share updates and key milestones.
Starting this spring and continuing throughout the life of the project, we will provide regular updates on design, funding, timelines, and construction. This will include direct communication with facility users and partners, along with public updates to keep the community informed.
We are committed to a clear and transparent approach so that everyone who uses and supports the Canada Games Aquatic Centre stays connected as the project progresses.
