A Modern Aquatic Legacy for Our City

Project Overview

The Canada Games Aquatic Centre (CGAC), originally built for the 1985 Canada Summer Games, is undergoing an estimated $25.1 million transformation to meet the needs of the 2029 Canada Games and future generations. This project is a regional investment to modernize the facility, enhance energy efficiency, and improve accessibility and spectator experience. As the only 50-metre pool in New Brunswick, these upgrades will benefit local users of the facility, and help to attract future competitions and events, for years to come.

Governance & Oversight

A Project Working Group led by the City of Saint John, Fundy Regional Service Commission, Envision Saint John, Canada Games Aquatic Centre Management, and the 2029 Canada Games Bid Committee will guide the project. A dedicated Project Manager, within the City’s capital delivery team, will oversee all technical and operational components.


Environmental & Social Impact

Modern systems and infrastructure upgrades will enhance energy efficiency, lower emissions, and improve climate resilience. Accessibility upgrades will ensure barrier-free experiences for all users. Together, these significant upgrades will enable the Canada Games to return to Saint John in 2029 and extend the life of the CGAC for generations to come!

Your input and support matter. Information sessions will be announced as the project moves forward for the community and partners to learn more about how this investment will shape the future of aquatic sports in Saint John and across New Brunswick!
