ATVs on Designated City Roadways on West Side
Saint John Common Council will be considering a potential change to the City’s Traffic By-Law, currently planned for Quarter 2 of 2025, that would allow All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) to travel on designated roadways on the west side.
This has been requested by the Lorneville Trail Riders Club 57 to link up existing off-road trails. Potential designated roadways are:
portions of King William Road from Ocean Westway to Galbraith Place (except the Highway 1 overpass, where there is an existing highway usage permit from the Province)
a portion of Paddy’s Hill Drive (230 metres west of King William Road to westerly end)
full length of Galbraith Place.
A map provided to the right shows the exact limits of these roadways being considered.
We are interested in hearing from city residents and other stakeholders to help inform Common Council’s decision when considering this potential by-law change.
Before completing this survey, you are encouraged to review the materials provided to the right. Materials include a report and a presentation to the City's Public Safety Committee.
Although we are asking for input now, should Common Council approve the upcoming by-law change, ATV use on this small number of roadways in Lorneville would also be considered a pilot project.
After the pilot, the City would seek further feedback before further changes are made.
