FAQs
- Stakeholder feedback needs to be considered.
- Approximately $1.6 million of the $2 million estimated cost still needs to be identified.
- The Province of New Brunswick needs to approve the project
- Detailed design and project tendering needs to be completed.
Is this the final design?
No. We are at the "Conceptual Design" stage in the project. Detailed design still needs to be completed. Stakeholder feedback will be considered as part of the detailed design stage.
How are you suppose to get to and from the bike lanes?
Further improvements at the two ends of this project, at Chesley Drive and at Union Street, will be considered during detailed design. The Main Street Active Transportation project is part of a larger cycling network identified in the Cycling Strategy of MoveSJ, the City's Transportation Plan; access at both ends of this project would be improved when the cycling network is expanded. Cyclists can still dismount and walk to and from the bike lanes on Main Street and the VIaduct once constructed.
What are the dark green areas in the drawing at the intersection with Metcalf Street and Simonds Street?
These are called Bike Boxes. Bike Boxes are locations set aside at signalized intersections for cyclists to wait if the signal facing that traffic is Red. Bike Boxes in front of left turn lanes allow cyclists to turn left without crossing the path of vehicles going straight through the intersection.
