Community Services in East Saint John

In 2025, the City of Saint John completed an evaluation of community services. Based on the findings, Common Council approved recommendations to strengthen programs and service delivery in East Saint John.

Working together with residents, partners, and local organizations, City staff will develop a plan that:

  • Reflects a community‑led approach to programs and services

  • Reduces barriers such as affordability and accessibility

  • Improves awareness and engagement across the east side

  • Supports service providers to build collaboration, capacity, and long‑term sustainability

How You Can Be Involved

To help shape a service delivery plan for East Saint John, the City is seeking community leaders to participate in a variety of roles. As a community leader, you will volunteer your time and expertise to represent the voices of east side residents.

Your personal, professional, or volunteer experience brings valuable knowledge, history, lived experience, and insight into the lives of East Saint John youth, adults, families, seniors, and target populations such as low‑income residents, newcomers, and persons with disabilities. You may also have experience in one or more community service areas.

The roles below are preliminary and may evolve based on community input.

Join the Community Network

The East Side Community Network will bring together a wide range of local stakeholders, including schools, service providers, neighbourhood associations, faith‑based organizations, facility operators, service clubs, volunteers, and businesses.

Network members connect to share information, strengthen relationships, and collaborate on opportunities that support East Saint John’s community needs.

  • Term: Ongoing

  • Meetings: Members connect as needed; larger group meetings may occur 1–4 times per year, with more frequent meetings during early formation.

Serve on a Committee or Board

An East Saint John Advisory Committee will be established as a planning group representing the voice of east side residents. This committee may evolve into a non‑profit Community Association with a Board of Directors.

Working alongside City staff, the Committee will identify priorities and develop an action plan to enhance quality‑of‑life services in East Saint John.

  • Term: To be determined

  • Meetings: Minimum of one meeting per month
